Event Details
6-30 pm in the Orchard the tradtional Wassail ceremony presented by Joe Mallinson: sing the song, share the steaming cider cup, witness the libation to the tree and the placing of gifts for the “good spirits” and be shocked by guns meant to scare off the “pesky demons”!
Thereafter at the Butchers: See what has changed. Enjoy live music (from about 7-15 till 9.30) with Brian Heaton (accordion), Ruth Gasperini (violin) and Keith Jones (piano) whilst inspecting an exhibition which explores the history of the famous Carhampton Wassail tradition.
The music will feature folk dance tunes, vaudeville songs,Honky- Tonk and Jazz piano, instrumental jazz settings of popular music well known and loved in the 1930s and 40s when Bill and Eric Tarr ran the Butchers.
A new kind of old-fashioned evening at the pub!
Hoping to revive the bonfire and shooting in the pub orchard, more details to follow.
